The Shocking Experiments of Miss Mary Bennet: The Electric Queer Retelling of Pride & Prejudice from Mary’s Point Of View

Frankenstein meets Fingersmith in this brilliant, queer reimagining of the most ignored sister in Pride and Prejudice, Miss Mary Bennet
Awkward, plain and overlooked, Mary Bennet has long been out of favour not only with her own family but with generations of readers of Pride and Prejudice. But what was this peculiar woman really doing while her sisters were falling in love?

In a desperate bid to avoid being a burden on her family or, worse, married off to a controlling man, Mary does what any bright, intrepid girl would do. She takes to the attic and teaches herself to reanimate the dead. If finding acceptance requires a husband, she’ll get one . . . even if she has to make him herself.

Mary’s genius and determination, however, aren’t enough to control the malevolent force she unwittingly unleashes. In an effort to undo what she’s done, Mary forges an unlikely friendship with a brilliant young woman unlike any she’s ever known. And as friendship blossoms into something more, Mary begins to realise that she may have to choose between acceptance . . . and true happiness.

A witty, thoughtful reimagining of Pride and Prejudice from the perspective of a truly daring, extraordinary young woman, The Shocking Experiments of Miss Mary Bennet is sure to delight even the most hard-hearted of readers, alive or dead.

‘A fresh take on Regency women and Regency romance . . . will appeal to anyone who has ever felt ostracized by the conventions of the world they live in’ BOOKPAGE
